Heat and lots of sunshine persists in North Texas
Friday, North Texas can expect the hottest day of the year so far.
We have an approaching tropical low that moves to the Texas coastline at the Louisiana state line. We get the sinking, drier air from it Friday.
The high is forecast to hit 99°, and some places could hit 100°. As the system draws closer, it moves north over Louisiana, we'll get some cloud cover and breezy conditions on Saturday and Sunday. Small rain chances show up in our southeast corner.
That's it for rain chances in the week ahead, as well as "cooler" summer temperatures.
We've enjoyed a reasonable summer so far. Halfway through July, it has been much cooler in North Texas. Compare the average high since July 1st with the last couple of years. Back in '22, the average high was over 100°. So far this summer, we haven't even had one day like that.
This all changes next week. We'll be locked down in that hot and dry weather that is typical for the months of July and August. These two months are both are hottest and driest months of the year.
