Sunday downpours are gradually diminishing.

A few more showers and storms are possible through mid-evening. Any storm that develops will produce heavy rain. The chance of rain drops further after 10 p.m. Temperatures slowly cool into the 70s after sunset. Humidity remains high.

Monday begins warm and muggy, with areas of low clouds and early morning fog. A spotty shower, or two, cannot be ruled out through the morning commute. But, it'll remain dry for most commuters.

A greater chance of storms and heavy rain arrives Monday afternoon.

Monday's forecast has prompted a WJZ First Alert Weather Day

Monday brings a chance of more widespread showers and thunderstorms across Maryland, especially during the late morning and afternoon hours. Storms will initially develop along the bay breeze around the lunch-hour.

Rain and storms expand through the afternoon across much of central and western Maryland. Storms will be slow-moving and capable of torrential rain. Because of the heavy rain and slow storm movement, there is a greater chance of flooding Monday. More than 2" of rain will fall in less than an hour in a few spots. This could lead to quickly developing street and road flooding.

In addition to heavy rain, storms will produce tons of lightning. "When thunder roars, move indoors." A couple storms could also produce gusty winds. Have, at least, one way to be alerted to flooding and severe weather Monday.

Temperatures remain in the 80s. It will feel like a sauna Monday. Storms wind down after sunset.

Maryland weather trends drier by mid-week

Isolated, to widely scattered storms are still possible Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. But, it won't be as stormy as previous days. Plan on typical summer weather through the middle of the workweek. Mornings will be warm, while afternoons remain hot. It'll remain especially muggy.  A few showers and storms will develop in the afternoon heat. The greatest chance of rain will occur between 1 and 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Afternoon temperatures peak in the upper 80s and lower 90s.

Baltimore's forecast trends stormier late in the week

Another spike in the chance of rain is expected Thursday and Friday. An approaching system will take advantage of how warm and muggy it is - producing more widespread showers and storms. Storms will produce heavy rain and could become strong. If a storm becomes severe, gusty straight-line winds will be the primary impact.

Temperatures remain hot, despite the wetter weather. With a little luck, the First Alert Forecast dries out a bit as we head into the weekend.
